Beryllium Sulphite, BeSO3

Beryllium Sulphite, BeSO3, is obtained as colourless, hexagonal plates when the freshly precipitated hydroxide is added to a saturated alcoholic solution of sulphur dioxide, and the resulting solution evaporated in vacuo over sulphuric acid and alkali. It is decomposed by both alcohol and water.

If the hydroxide is dissolved in aqueous sulphurous acid, evaporation leaves a gummy mass of BeSO3.BeO.
